The following statement was released Wednesday morning regarding the intent to hire Andrew Baklik as chief of staff to Derby Mayor-elect Rich Dziekan. The pay rate has not been set. Dziekan and his fellow elected officials are scheduled to take the oath of office Saturday, Dec. 2:
I would like to announce that the first official appointment of my administration is my Chief of Staff, Andrew Baklik.
Andrew served as my campaign manager and without his efforts, I’m not sure I would have won the mayoral race.

There was a change in the final numbers but no change in outcome after a recount the Second Ward Aldermen’s race.
There were three spots available for six candidates.
The recount was triggered because just six votes separated the third and fourth place candidates (Republican candidate Jim Petrino and Democratic incumbent Art Gerckens) on Election Day.

Two-term incumbent Derby Mayor Anita Dugatto will face challenger Rich Dziekan in the municipal election scheduled for Nov. 7.
It’s a rematch of the 2015 contest, which saw Dugatto best Dziekan by 112 votes.
Dugatto is running on the Democratic line. She earned her spot at the top of the ticket by defeating Carmen DiCenso by 30 votes in a Democratic primary last month.
