United Illuminating hopes to restore power to another 10,000 customers by the end of the day Wednesday, according to a video message from CEO Jim Torgerson.
Torgerson said residents can call a customer service line at 1 – 800-722‑5584 to find out if they are among the homes that will get power turned back on Wednesday.
“They can tell you today if the line you are located on is going to be impacted by crews,” Torgerson said in the video. “We can’t go too much beyond today.”
As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, 60,000 UI customers still had no power, Torgerson said.
The peak of the outages was at 158,000, he said.
“During the next few days, our goal is to get down to where we’re under 10,000 customers out this weekend,” Torgerson said. “We will make a huge dent in the number of outages we have.”
Torgerson asked for patience, as crews are working 16-hour days to restore power across UI territory.
“Hopefully we’ll have this wrapped up in the not-too-distant future,” Torgerson said.
UI has been criticized by city and town leaders for a lack of communication throughout the power failures in the state.
A message was left with UI spokesman Michael West seeking comment.
