Three people were taken to the hospital after a vehicle crashed into the Housatonic River Tuesday on Route 34 in Seymour across from Dunkin Donuts.

The Valley Indy was not able to get information on what caused the crash or how many vehicles were involved. The injuries were not serious, according to fire scanner chatter, though the Valley Indy was unable to confirm.

Emergency radio transmissions and posts on social media confirmed that a white Mercedes went off the road, down an embankment and into the river.

The people in the vehicle managed to get themselves out before emergency crews arrived on scene, according to a Facebook post on Derby’s Storm Engine Co./Ambulance Corps Co. 2.

The people were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital to get checked out.

The accident was reported about 3 p.m.

FiregroundImages.com posted photos taken from a drone showing the accident scene.

Emergency protocols dictate when patients must be taken to trauma centers. It includes when a vehicle rolls over, which appeared to be the case here.

The trauma protocols are why patients are often taken to hospitals outside Derby.

Seymour responded to the scene with help from Derby, Shelton and possibly Oxford.
