Video: Ansonia Board Of Education Talks Budgets

The Ansonia Board of Education discussed their budgets for this year and next year during a special meeting Thursday.

Thursday’s meeting came a week after the city’s Aldermen voted on $1.4 million in budget adjustments which included a decrease of $600,000 from the Board of Education budget.

City officials said the cut would be offset by higher state grant payments than they anticipated when they initially set the budget.

But school officials said during Thursday’s meeting that the cuts would be difficult since they are coming in the middle of the year.

They noted their current budget is now the same as their final budget for 2015 – 2016 — $31,260,484.

Toward the end of Thursday’s meeting the school board also voted to send a $32,590,951 budget request to the city for 2018 – 2019.
