Winter Storm Updates

The National Weather Service is predicting between 4 to 8 inches to fall in Connecticut by the end of the day on Tuesday (Feb. 13).

At 5:15 a.m. Gil Simmons, meteorologist, with WTNH, forecasted between 6 and 9 inches for southern Connecticut, with the storm clearing out of the state between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The Valley Indy measured seven inches of snow in Derby at about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Tuesday's Announcements

4:12 p.m.
Shelton FD was sent to check on St. Joseph’s Church on Coram Avenue after a fire alarm sounded. Units on scene reported all is well.

3:42 p.m.
Ansonia police have issued 38 parking tickets since last night and have towed one vehicle for winter parking violations. 

There was a concerted effort yesterday to warn residents to follow the parking regulations and it appears to have paid off for us,” said APD Lt. Patrick Lynch.

Ansonia Superintendent Public Works Tim Holman also thanked Ansonia residents for complying with parking regulations caused by the snow.

2:22 p.m.
Gov. Ned Lamont lifted the highway ban on empty tractor trailers and tandem tractor trailers. Proof here.

1:24 p.m.
Hot Tamale Bar & Grill in Seymour is closed today.

1:17 p.m.
Uptown Bar & Eatery on Main Street in Ansonia is closed today.

1:15 p.m.
The snow stopped. The Valley Indy measured about seven inches of snow on the ground in Derby.

12:46 p.m.
Seymour emergency crews were sent to Argonne Terrace for a report of wires down.

12:44 p.m.
Seymour emergency crews were sent to an activated’ fire alarm at an apartment building on West Street. The initial firefighters on scene reported seeing no smoke nor fire and were investigating. Presumably no issue found, as units cleared the scene about 12:52 p.m.

12:16 p.m.
Seymour emergency services are responding to a motor vehicle accident on Maple Street. It is one of three calls Seymour has as of this posting.

12:04 p.m.
Ansonia Westfield Veterinary Hospital on Westfield Avenue in Ansonia is not opening today.

12 p.m.
From Seymour: There is a tree on a wire off of the Edge Hill area. Eversource is on the scene. The power should be back on within the next couple of hours.” The Eversource website noted 12 customers without electricity.

11:54 a.m.
Roseland Apizza on Hawthorne Avenue in Derby is not opening today.

11:16 a.m.
Seymour FD, EMS and police responded to report of a car accident on Old Ansonia Road. Crews were told to proceed with caution due to road conditions.

10 a.m.
CT Emergency Management: Moderate bands of snow continue to fall throughout the state with snowfall totals closing in on 8 inches in parts of central and northwest Connecticut. Snow will gradually taper off from northwest to southeast between 1pm and 3pm.

9:46 a.m.
Eversource reminds people to clear your home’s gas meter and all vents of snow and ice. Use a brush, broom or hands — not a shovel, which could cause damage.

9:39 a.m.
Derby ambulance sent to a Minerva Street residence for a report of a possible overdose. Person taken to the hospital.

9:30 a.m.
Four measurements in four flat locations in Derby backyard showed just about 6 inches of snow on the ground. See photo posted below.

9:28 a.m.
No power outages reported in Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Derby, Oxford, Seymour or Shelton.

9:22 a.m.
Due to the storm, the Plumb Library (in Shelton) will be closed today. Stay safe and enjoy a hot cup of tea and a good book!”

9:21 a.m
The Shelton Community Center will be closed Tuesday, Feb. 13. Call the cancellation line for updates: 203 – 331-4120.

8:57 a.m.
Ansonia City Hall: If you are in need of a temporary parking spot due to the storm, Nolan Field parking lot is available.” (Map)

8:30 a.m.
Derby City Hall updated its post from last night. Trash and Recycling pick ups are cancelled for Tuesday February 13, 2024. All pickups will be delayed one day for the rest of this week.”

8:19 a.m.
Jimmie’s Place on Main Street in Seymour will not be open for lunch today. Zois’ Pizza, down the road, is also closed for today.

7:49 a.m.
Seymour: Route 8 rollover reported, northbound, north of exit 22 near French Park. Units on scene as of 7:55 a.m., firefighter reported one-car accident, vehicle came to a rest on driver’s side. Four occupants, all out of the car/no extrication needed.

7:44 a.m.
Seymour: Town buildings will open at 10:00 am today Tuesday, February 13, 2024”

7:30 a.m.
Beacon Falls fire & EMS reported to an accident on Route 8 south near exit 24, according to Facebook post.

7:22 a.m.
Seymour transfer station is closed today.

Monday's Pre-Storm Announcements

ANSONIA
Ansonia City Hall announced all non-essential city offices” are closed on Feb. 13.
The annual paczki-eating contest is canceled.
Ansonia police asked people to remember the city’s winter parking regulations (read them here), and to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.
Ansonia City Hall said both recycle and garbage will not be picked on Tuesday (Feb 13). Scheduled pick ups will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.

DERBY
Derby City Hall announced Monday night that garbage and recycling is NOT canceled. However, the city also said there would be an update on Tuesday morning.

FROM THE STATE
Gov. Ned Lamont closed all executive branch buildings.
The state has 600 trucks and 900 drivers ready to clear state roads.
The state has a website, CT Prepares, with storm resources and info.
Gov. Lamont issued an order banning all tandem tractor trailers and empty tractor trailers from traveling on all limited access highways statewide effective at 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday.” It’s in effect until further notice.
