Police Pursuit In Seymour Ends On Route 8

A car fleeing Seymour police reached speeds of 80 mph while its tires disintegrated on Route 8 south Wednesday.

The pursuit kicked off at about 11:20 a.m., after police received a report of a person possibly breaking into a home on Patrick Drive.

Seymour has been hit with a rash of burglaries lately.

The Valley Indy was unable to confirm any details because Seymour police did not return calls for comment.

However, radio dispatches indicated a suspect from Patrick Drive wouldn’t stop for police on nearby Mountain Road. Instead, the driver hit speeds of 50 mph as he barreled toward Route 67.

The pursuit continued onto Route 67 and headed toward downtown Seymour.

At some point, police were apparently able to lay out spike strips just before the driver headed from Route 67 onto Route 8 south.

The tires are going down,” a police officer said over his radio.

His tires are starting to go down,” another officer said.

Still, the driver was able to reach 80 mph — followed by a small army of police cars.

Some of the tires on the man’s cars had disintegrated by the time the chase came to an end near exit 19 on Route 8.

The activity caused traffic to come to a halt on Route 8 south roughly 30 minutes as police dealt with the scene.

An ambulance was also sent to Route 8 to assist someone with a laceration. However, it’s not known who was hurt or the nature of the injury.

Further information was not available.
