Coat Giveaway In Ansonia Dec. 22

There will be a coat giveaway at the Abundant Life Fellowship Ministries (195 — 199 N. Main St.) on Sunday, Dec. 22, from 10 to 11 a.m.

The giveaway includes adult and children’s coats, gloves, and socks, with one coat per person. To register, show up at 9:30 a.m.

The giveaway is presented by Life Health & Wellness Center, and it is sponsored by Bridgeport Rescue Mission and Abundant Life Fellowship Ministries.

Ansonia Middle School Teacher Passes Away

Mr. Rubin Little helped develop math and financial literacy curricula at the state level.

ANSONIARubin Little, who brought 30 years of financial advisor experience with him when he joined the faculty of Ansonia Public Schools, passed away overnight. He was 59 years old.

Little had taught business and financial literacy at Ansonia Middle School since 2019. Before that, he worked as a financial advisor with American Express for decades. 

Ansonia Public Schools announced Mr. Little’s passing in a message sent out on the morning of Dec. 17.

Ansonia Debt Outlook Downgraded

ANSONIAThe City of Ansonia is relying on the sale of its sewer system to keep its financial position afloat, according to a report from a global bond rating agency.

In a report dated Dec. 5, S&P Global Ratings announced that it was revising Ansonia’s debt outlook from stable” to negative” – meaning that, if the city’s financial direction stays the same, its bond rating could be downgraded.

A bond rating is a measure of a city’s financial health. It affects interest rates whenever a city borrows money – the stronger the rating, the lower the interest rate.

The report says that Ansonia produced operating deficits for the last two years, and that it is planning to pay for regular expenses using the proceeds from a one-time sale.

Victory Parade Dec. 21 To Honor Ansonia Charger State Champs

ANSONIAA victory parade to celebrate the Ansonia Chargers’ state championship will be held on Saturday, Dec. 21, at 1 p.m. on Main Street.

The Ansonia Chargers beat the Bloomfield Warhawks in a 58 – 12 victory on Dec. 14 to claim their 22nd Class S CIAC state title. 

The parade will leave from the police department parking lot (65 Main St.) and process down the street toward city hall. Parking is available on Upper Main Street.

Request For Proposals Issued For Ansonia Animal Shelter

ANSONIAThe City of Ansonia is looking for a contractor to renovate the animal shelter at 2 N. Division St.

The city put out a request for proposals” on Nov. 24 seeking a contractor to expand and renovate the shelter. The planned renovations include the addition of a cat kennel, rearranging the current office and dog kennels, and adding a fenced-in area for dogs to run around.

Parts of the current facility will be demolished. The upgraded facility will also feature an entry lobby, an additional utility room, and a new central cooling system.

Route 8 Construction Update For Weeks Of Dec. 16, 23 & 30, 2024

For the week of Dec. 16, nighttime work will continue from 6PM to 6AM:

  • Nighttime operations will typically occur Sunday night through Thursday night.
  • Saw-cutting and concrete pavement repair activities will continue, northbound from Exit 15 to 22 (New Exits 12B to 18).
  • Both northbound and southbound traffic lanes have moved to the right shoulder to create a work area for median barrier replacement between Exit 20 and 22 (New Exits 17 – 18).
  • Median barrier and median drainage are being replaced.
  • There is no upcoming daytime work.

Ansonia’s Grace Zielinska Was A Mother, Sister, Gamer, And Friend

ANSONIAGrace Zielinska’s loved ones want her remembered as more than just a statistic.

Born as Grace Lirette, the 34-year-old mother’s life was tragically ended on Nov. 9, 2021, when her husband, Kamil Zielinski, killed her while in the grips of a psychotic episode. 

Zielinski was found not guilty of murder by reason of insanity on Dec. 11. He’s been confined to a mental facility.

Grace Zielinska’s loved ones remembered her this week as a fighter who stood up for herself and for those around her, and as a mother who loved her children fiercely.

Ansonia Man Not Guilty By Reason Of Insanity

ANSONIAA three-judge panel found Kamil Zielinski not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect for the 2021 killing of his wife, Grace Zielinska, on Wednesday (Dec. 11).

Zielinski was moved to kill and mutilate his wife by delusions and voices that told him his children were in danger, a psychologist testified in court.

Zielinski will be placed under a period of psychiatric evaluation and kept in custody until Feb. 21. On Feb. 21, a court will decide how long to keep him in the custody of a state psychiatric facility.
