ANSONIA-DERBY — State Rep. Kara Rochelle is scheduled to hold her monthly in-person Community Coffee Events on Friday, April 18, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m in the private room of the Valley Diner, 636 New Haven Ave in Derby and Monday, April 21, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Copper City Bar & Grill, 82 – 84 Main St. in Ansonia.
Residents from Derby and Ansonia are welcome to attend. They are encouraged to come share their thoughts, ask questions, and provide feedback on state policy issues.
“Connecting with residents and having real conversations about improving our community is one of my favorite parts of this work. I carry your thoughts and ideas with me while crafting policy and advocating for Ansonia and Derby at the Capitol. I proudly host these events to encourage open dialogue and to promote community participation in our democratic process,” Rep. Rochelle said in a prepared statement.

ANSONIA – During an interview the morning after Christine Holloway was found beaten to death in her residence on Myrtle Avenue, detectives repeatedly pressed Jose Morales about why he didn’t seem concerned that his daughter, Vanessa, was missing.
“The whole ride here you didn’t talk about your 1‑year-old daughter missing,” Ansonia Detective Stephen Adcox said to Morales inside the Ansonia police department.
Vanessa Morales, now 6, has not been seen since Nov. 29, 2019. Her mom’s body was discovered Dec. 2, 2019.
Morales is now on trial for murdering Holloway and tampering with physical evidence. He was arrested Feb. 7, 2020. He has not been charged in connection to Vanessa’s disappearance.

The event features dozens of volunteer chefs from the community representing their organizations and businesses, offering samples of their signature dishes.

ANSONIA – Whether she’s helping students create blueprints or developing prototypes for model trains on a 3D printer, Rebecca Marra’s love for engineering and mechanical design shines through at her teaching job at Emmett O’Brien (EOB) Technical High School.
It’s why she has been named EOB’s teacher of the year.
“The list of my fellow colleagues who were also nominated for the honor are such a talented group. It was very humbling to hear I was selected,” Marra said.
Marra began her teaching career at EOB in 2001. She left for a few years to teach at Platt Tech in Milford, but returned to EOB in 2008.
In music, the song “(How Much Is That) Doggie in the Window” by Patti Page is the best-selling record. Dwight D. Eisenhower is President. On television, people are watching “The Ed Sullivan Show,” “What’s My Line?” and “The Roy Rogers Show.”

ANSONIA — Mike Cannici’s talk show “In the Spotlight” this week featured an interview with Tom Brockett, the Ansonia High School football coach who announced his retirement April 10.
Brockett was an assistant coach with the Chargers from 2000 until 2005. He became head coach in 2006 after Jack Hunt, another Valley football legend, retired.
Brockett’s record with the Chargers was 215 wins and 18 losses. That’s a .922 winning percentage — the best in Connecticut history, according to the school district.
The Chargers won eight state championships with Brockett as coach and 13 Naugatuck Valley League championships.
The Chargers had seven undefeated seasons during his tenure.

ANSONIA – Day five of the people versus Jose Morales began Friday with testimony about a 911 call from Morales’ cell phone to city police just before 2 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019.
Morales is charged with murdering Christine Holloway inside her home on Myrtle Avenue around that date. Holloway was last seen Nov. 29, 2019. She was found beaten to death inside her residence Dec. 2, 2019.
Morales is also charged with tampering with evidence.
Holloway was the mother of Morales’ daughter, Vanessa, who has not been seen since Nov. 29, 2019. She was a year old at the time she went missing.
