Good Things Are Happening In The Valley, Part II

Even with the fear and uncertainty created by the COVID-19 coronavirus, neighbors, businesses and groups are supporting each other in any number of ways.

In keeping with Ansonia’s blue ribbon unity theme, 15 city restaurants recently displayed banners outside their business promoting pickup and delivery service. The banners were organized by Ansonia Middle School health teacher Lisa Nicolari.

Ansonia Superintendent of Public Works Michael D’Alessio, painted a blue line down Main Street April 7. The blue line, along with blue ribbons throughout the city, represent unity as we fight this battle against the coronavirus together,” according to a post on the city’s Facebook page.

Chifrijo restaurant on Main Street donated 12 pizzas April 2 to Ansonia’s police department and emergency staff at ARMS. This came after Chifrijo donated 30 steak dinners to The Little Pantry on Church Street the week prior. PHOTO: Co-owner and chef Gustavo prepares pizza.

The Kardamis family dropped off the the world’s biggest sandwich at Ansonia Rescue Medical Services. We are so fortunate for all the amazing donations and support,” ARMS said in a Facebook post.

Gordon Rubber and Packing Co. in Derby has been manufacturing straps that are being affixed to personal protective equipment that is being donated to area frontline workers, including nurses.

Mayor Rich Dziekan delivered 150 masks to Ellen Oczkowski, Derby Housing Authority’s subsidized housing coordinator, for distribution to residents at Cicia Manor, Stygar Terrace and Guardiano Terrace.
