DERBY — Police Thursday and Friday concentrated on the area around a clothes donation bin on Derby Avenue because evidence was recovered there that could be connected to Christine Holloway’s homicide, The Valley Independent Sentinel has learned.
Holloway’s body was found inside her house on Myrtle Avenue in Ansonia on Monday. Her death has been ruled a homicide. She died from blunt force trauma.
Her 1‑year-old daughter, Vanessa Morales, is missing. She was last seen Friday. A round-the-clock search for Vanessa, with assistance from the FBI, is underway.

The Derby Donation Bin
On Thursday police recovered bloody material or clothing that originated in a “Kiducation” bin in a parking lot across from the Derby Catholic War Veterans building. That material could be connected to Holloway’s death. Authorities spent hours Thursday sifting through materials at the “Kiducation” distribution center in Hamden.
On Friday, local and state police, including police dogs, searched for additional evidence along the Derby riverwalk and in nearby woods in the area of St. Michael’s Church.
Nothing came out of Friday’s effort.
On Thursday, police put out a specific request for video anyone might have from the Derby Avenue/New Haven Avenue area.
Specifically, Derby police put out a request for anyone with a “Ring” security camera who lives in the area of Division Street/Derby Avenue on the Ansonia town line to the Route 34/New Haven Avenue area at the Orange town line to contact authorities at 203 503 5555.
Earlier Friday
Ansonia Police Lt. Patrick Lynch said Friday police were still working to find Vanessa. At the same time police are trying to figure out who killed Holloway, her mother.
“There was activity in Derby today in relation to a lead received but there is no information to release in regards to that activity,” Lynch said in an email. “We are still conducting follow-ups and interviews based on tips and information gained during this investigation.”
Police held media briefings Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Since there was no new information to give out, police did not schedule a press conference Friday evening.
A press release is scheduled to be released Saturday, Lynch said.
Members of Vanessa’s extended family were in Ansonia and Derby Friday for hours handing out flyers with photos of the little.
“Everyone just wants to bring her home safe. That is all,” said Toni Cochran, a relative. “I’m confident she is going to come home safe — prayers, everyone needs to pray.”

A GoFundMe page was set up as well.
Finally, a prayer vigil has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday next to Ansonia City Hall, 253 Main St.
