Today Senate and House Republicans shared a state budget proposal that closes the current projected state deficit over the next two years without new taxes and without pushing state expenses onto towns, cities or hospitals.
The “Confident Connecticut” budget includes increased education funding with a new funding formula, restores money for core social services, and provides for significant structural changes to state government that roll out into the future.

Valley NAACP President Greg Johnson Sr. sent the following letter to the Valley Indy after a Woodbridge Democrat referred to state Sen. George Logan as a “token black Republican” in a Facebook comment.
It’s a sad day in Woodbridge when a Democrat not only attempts to use race to divide, but belittles a strong man of color in the process. Her comment were disrespectful and she needs to publicly and sincerely apologize.

The Bethany Library Association is the nonprofit governing body for the Clark Memorial Library and is pleased to be participating in The Great Give 2017. The Great Give is the premiere online giving event for nonprofits in the Greater New Haven region.
The Library HVAC system needs a complete upgrade as all equipment is at least a generation old and is not functioning efficiently- when it does function!

Firefighters from the Beacon Hose Co. No. 1 in Beacon Falls will be holding a boot drive Saturday (Nov. 28) to benefit a high school student recently diagnosed with cancer.
The boot drive is scheduled for noon to 4 p.m. on Main Street in Beacon Falls.

A total of 214 eighth grade students participated in a Commencement Program at Ansonia Middle School on June 17 in the school auditorium. The program was followed by a reception for students and their families.
Co-Principals Amy O’Brien and Terri Goldson also announced the top two graduates of the class: Xhemile Shahini of Team 8‑West, who gave the welcoming address, and Bryan Nguy of Team 8‑East, who delivered the history of the class.

A portrait of Willie Nelson by Beacon Falls artist, Jack Lardis, has been placed in the Willie Nelson Museum in Nashville, TN.
It hangs above a hand-carved bench that was a gift to Willie. The room features Willie’s Wall of Gold and Platinum Records and awards, with memorabilia from his country music friends including Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Barbara Mandrell, Kenny Rogers, Dottie West, Mel Tillis, Marty Stuart, Connie Smith, Ronnie Milsap, and many others.

Oxford Officials on Sunday dedicated the town’s new playscape in honor of Lily Brooks, a 3‑year-old who tragically died on Sept. 14 as a result of a motor vehicle accident on Sept. 11 on Quaker Farms Road.
The dedication of the new park on Great Oak Road was attended by about 100 people and children eagerly sat on swings and slid down slides.
Lily’s parents, Jon and Amy, attended the dedication, thanking the town and its residents for their concerns and support during such a tragic time.
