Shelton’s very own Mrs. Connecticut, Liza Ginoni-Gambino, recently joined the Derby-Shelton Rotary.
“The very first time I met Liza was at our Shelton Day festival. She was introduced to me as Mrs. Connecticut American. She was so warm and authentic. I asked her if she wanted to get into one of the Shriners cars with me and she said yes, without a second thought. I was very excited to learn she was interested in becoming a member. She’s a definite asset to our Derby Shelton Rotary Club. She loves to give back to the community. I knew she would be a perfect fit,” said Kim Ryan Caro, Club President.

Students residing in the Towns of Ansonia, Seymour and Oxford were asked to write an essay utilizing the motto of Rotary International — “SERVICEABOVESELF” — each applicant was asked to submit a 500-word essay that addresses this theme. The essay needed to reflect its personal meaning to each student, relating it to personal experience and articulate the importance of service in life and community, state or throughout the world.

SEYMOUR – The following information was sent by Lori A. Nespoli, the founder of the Love Mom XOXO Foundation Inc.
This is an exciting year for the Love Mom XOXO Foundation as we will be hosting our 1st Golf Tournament “In Loving Memory” of Angel Moms and Dads at Oxford Greens.
The tournament will be held Friday May 17th with a shotgun start at 1:30 pm. Check-in begins at 12:30 pm.
Price includes 18 holes, cart, lunch, award dinner and more! This golf tournament will enable us to continue our programs and help us move forward to establish scholarship opportunities to children who fall within our mission.
We are also offering memorial flagsticks on each hole in honor of an Angel Mom or Dad, free of charge. Flagsticks are available on a first come, first serve basis. Sponsor opportunities are also available for our tournament as well.

On 4/5/24 at 5:17 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the Wicke Health Care Center at #584 Long Hill Avenue for a fire alarm activation. There was no fire. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

DERBY – The Childbirth Center at Griffin Hospital Annual Baby Fair is back after a three-year hiatus.
Expectant parents, new parents and their families are invited to learn about the Childbirth Center and area maternity and child care resources from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sat., May 4 at Griffin Hospital, 130 Division Street in Derby. This free event features many exhibitors, special offers and discounts, raffles, door prizes, tours of the Childbirth Center and information about the Center’s classes and support groups for before and after childbirth.
