DERBY — Members of the Derby Board of Education recently received two awards from the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE).
The elected board received the CABE Board Leadership Award, and the Bonnie B. Carney Award for Excellence in Educational Communications, according to a press release from Derby Public Schools.
The awards were given at the CABE/CAPPS Annual Convention on Nov. 15.
The CABE Board Leadership Award acknowledges boards that exemplify teamwork, strategic planning, and an unwavering commitment to student achievement and community engagement, according to the press release.

OXFORD– Following the August floods in Oxford, Goodwill of Western and Northern Connecticut (GWNC) rallied its team to support victims of the disaster. GWNC’s involvement began at Quarry Walk with boots-on-the-ground support in the days following the flood, handing out food and water, cleaning items, and distributing Goodwill gift cards.
Alongside Team Inc. and the American Red Cross, GWNC served as a support system for Oxford residents navigating a monumental disruption. This cycle of support for the Oxford community has now culminated in a donation of more than $13,000 through GWNC’s Round Up campaign.
ANSONIA – A free turkey and bag of fixings will be available for pickup at the Abundant Life Fellowship parking lot (199 N. Main St.) between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 23).
The giveaway is first-come, first-serve, with a limit of one per household. The giveaway will last until 1 p.m. or until food runs out.
The giveaway is organized by Life Health & Wellness Center and Bridgeport Rescue Center, and it is sponsored by Aquarion.
Nighttime operations will typically occur Sunday night through Thursday night.
Saw-cutting and concrete pavement repair activities will continue, northbound from Exit 15 to 22 (New Exits 12B to 18).
Both northbound and southbound traffic lanes are moving to the right shoulder to create a work area for upcoming barrier replacement between Exit 20 and 22 (New Exits 17 – 18).

Connecticut-based non-profit Project Purple is providing a $750,000 grant to Hartford HealthCare to create the largest high-risk pancreatic cancer screening program statewide. This grant is the largest philanthropic donation to pancreatic cancer research efforts that has been made in Connecticut to date.
“We are so excited to be partnering with Hartford HealthCare and to be able to partner with the state’s leading healthcare system,” Project Purple CEO and Founder Dino Verrelli said, addressing the audience at a check presentation on November 12.
“It’s truly amazing to be all over the state,” Verrelli continued, referencing the statewide impact and accessibility that Hartford HealthCare provides to patients all across Connecticut.
