The City of Ansonia sent the following message to the Valley Indy about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 27):
All Municipal buildings will be open Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m.
Parking ban will be lifted Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 7 a.m.

The fire Monday night that tore through a duplex on Mount Pleasant Street may have been started by incense that was part of a religious shrine.
Derby Fire Marshal Phil Hawks said a man who lived in the apartment where the fire started had been praying at the shrine shortly before the fire started.
The man then went upstairs, smelled smoke and returned to the lower floor. The information comes from an interview Hawks said he conducted with the man and his family.

Seymour First Selectman Kurt Miller announced Tuesday (Jan. 27) afternoon that local roads would be open at 3 p.m. and town buildings will open Wednesday (Jan. 28).

John Wasilewski has been in a hospital bed recovering from a serious car wreck on Route 8 north in Shelton Jan. 22.
He’s got a shattered forearm, among other injuries, but there’s been one thing on his mind since the wreck — his lost dog, Zoe.

Gov. Dannel Malloy announced a statewide travel ban will be lifted at 2 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 27) in the aftermath of a snowstorm that ended up being less severe than forecasted.
Still, Malloy warned drivers not to expect the roads to be great.
“We’re not saying that we want you to get on the roads,” Malloy said at a noon press conference in Hartford. “They are still able to be as they would be in a normal storm as opposed to a storm the likes of which we have just come through.”

Ten people, a dog and an iguana escaped injury after fire tore through a two-family apartment house at 133 – 135 Mount Pleasant St. Monday.
Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries.

Ansonia Mayor David Cassetti sent the following message about 9:15 p.m. Monday (Jan. 26) regarding the snowstorm hitting the area:
This is Mayor Cassetti with a Code Red alert from the City of Ansonia.
The State of Connecticut is being impacted by a winter blizzard which will continue into late Tuesday. Weather services are forecasting that we will receive well over a foot of snow during the storm with the heaviest of the snow coming over the next 12 hours.

Derby Police Chief Gerald Narowski sent the following message Monday evening:
“The police department will be instituting a travel ban for Derby roads beginning this evening at 9 pm.
We ask that all non-essential persons stay off the roadway to allow for road clearing and emergency services.”

Seymour First Selectman Kurt Miller delcared a state of emergency Monday at 1 p.m. in advance of a major winter storm heading into the region.
The declaration means no vehicles should be on the roads starting at 8 p.m.
