Hundreds Expected For Saturday’s “Men Who Cook” Fundraiser In Ansonia

ANSONIAWe will beat her easy. Those people in Seymour don’t know how to cook.”

That was the shocking refrain of Ansonia Mayor David Cassetti when asked about Seymour First Selectwoman Annmarie Drugonis’s odds at this weekend’s 16th Annual Men Who Cook” fundraiser, scheduled from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. April 20 at Warsaw Park, 119 Pulaski Highway.

Men Who Cook” features professional and amateur chefs cooking their favorite meals.

Yes, last year’s Men Who Cook” drew 400 people and raised more than $82,000 for TEAM Inc., the Valley’s nonprofit social services agency. And yes, this year’s tickets are almost sold out, but you can try to purchase some here.

Quassy Amusement Scheduled To Open April 27

MIDDLEBURY — Quassy Amusement Park and Waterpark will kick off its 116th season on Saturday, April 27 with Quassy Cares Neighbors in Need Weekends,” a two-weekend-long fundraiser.

On April 27- 28 and May 4 – 5, guests can receive discounted All-Day Ride Wristbands for only $17 when they bring a donation of a non-perishable item or home cleaning products. Non-perishable food donations will go to local food banks and home cleaning products will benefit Acts 4 Ministry, a local nonprofit helping the needs of families and individuals in financial distress. 

Guests will receive one discounted pass per donated item. All-Day Ride Wristbands are also available during the first two weekends for only $26.99 without a donation.

The application deadline for the 2024 Roland R. Strong and Edith H. Strong Memorial Scholarship is THIS Friday, April 12, 2024 for eligible students to apply. All graduating high school seniors (Class of 2024) who are Oxford residents are eligible to apply for this 4‑year renewable scholarship (which historically has been at least $8,000 per year if not more!).

Griffin Hospital Annual Baby Fair Returns May 4

DERBY – The Childbirth Center at Griffin Hospital Annual Baby Fair is back after a three-year hiatus.

Expectant parents, new parents and their families are invited to learn about the Childbirth Center and area maternity and child care resources from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sat., May 4 at Griffin Hospital, 130 Division Street in Derby. This free event features many exhibitors, special offers and discounts, raffles, door prizes, tours of the Childbirth Center and information about the Center’s classes and support groups for before and after childbirth.

The Connecticut Chapter of the American Planning Association (CCAPA) recently presented the All In Alliances in Ansonia, Derby, Milford, Oxford, Seymour, and Waterbury with their 2024 Citizen Planner Award, at their annual awards luncheon held in Southington, CT. The ceremony was attended by over 60 Connecticut city planners and colleagues in government, public service, and philanthropy.
