Upcoming Turkey Drives And Meal Giveaways In The Lower Valley

VALLEYNeed a turkey to share with your loved ones this Thanksgiving? Or want to help out by donating one for a good cause? Check out this list of upcoming turkey drives to benefit residents of Shelton, Derby, Ansonia, Seymour and Oxford.

(Note: This list was compiled by The Valley Indy on Nov. 19 and may be incomplete.)

Ansonia

On Saturday, Nov. 23, Life Health & Wellness Center and Bridgeport Rescue Mission will be giving away turkeys and bags of fixings between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Pickup is at the Abundant Life Fellowship church parking lot (199 N. Main St.).

The giveaway is first-come, first-serve, and it lasts until 1 p.m. or until all food supplies are gone.

On Sunday, Nov. 24, Master’s Table Community Meals will hostfree Thanksgiving food giveaway between 2 — 3 p.m., or until food runs out. Pickup is at the Assumption Church (61 N. Cliff St.), and it is drive-up pickup only. Park between the church and the school.

On Monday, Nov. 25, there will be a free food giveaway at the Abundant Life Fellowship church parking lot between 10 and 11 a.m. This is a regularly scheduled event, and operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

Derby

On Sunday, Nov. 23, the Derby Police Department’s Auxiliary Unit will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items at BJ’s Wholesale Club (20 Division St.). Dropoff is between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. All donations benefit St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop & Food Bank.

St. Vincent de Paul is also accepting donations of Thanksgiving food items between now and Nov. 25. This flyer contains a list of needed food items. Dropoff is Monday through Saturday between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at 237 Roosevelt Dr., and your donations will be distributed to Valley neighbors in need.

Seymour/Oxford

On Saturday, Nov. 23, Seymour Middle School will be accepting donations of turkeys between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Dropoff is at Seymour Middle School (211 Mountain Rd.) and Chatfield-LoPresti Elementary School (51 Skokorat St.). All donations will be distributed directly to Seymour families in need, or given to Seymour-Oxford Food Bank, Spooner House, and the Blessing Pantry.

Also on Nov. 23, Seymour-Oxford Food Bank will be hosting a community Friendsgiving” meal at Seymour Congregational Church, UCC (45 Broad St.). Doors open at 12:30 p.m. and the meal is served at 1 p.m.

Shelton

On Thursday, Nov. 21, Smile Dental Center and Mutual Security Credit Union will be accepting donations of turkeys and canned food between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Dropoff is at Smile Dental Center (1000 Bridgeport Ave.). All donations will benefit the Spooner House in Shelton.
