| Nov 19, 2024 8:48 am |OXFORD — The Oxford Pop Warner 7U Rookie Tackle team achieved a historic milestone this season, winning the first-ever Red Conference Championship in Northern Connecticut Pop Warner history. The team’s outstanding performance didn’t stop there — they went on to finish as State Champion Runners-Up, closing their remarkable season with an impressive 8 – 2 record.
This trailblazing accomplishment not only cemented Oxford’s place in youth football history but also showcased the program’s commitment to excellence, teamwork, and character. Adding to the celebration, Oxford Pop Warner was honored with the 2024 Sportsmanship Award by the Western CT Football Officials Association. This prestigious award is presented annually to one program that exemplifies integrity, respect, and exemplary conduct on the field.

| Nov 18, 2024 11:36 am |Connecticut-based non-profit Project Purple is providing a $750,000 grant to Hartford HealthCare to create the largest high-risk pancreatic cancer screening program statewide. This grant is the largest philanthropic donation to pancreatic cancer research efforts that has been made in Connecticut to date.
“We are so excited to be partnering with Hartford HealthCare and to be able to partner with the state’s leading healthcare system,” Project Purple CEO and Founder Dino Verrelli said, addressing the audience at a check presentation on November 12.
“It’s truly amazing to be all over the state,” Verrelli continued, referencing the statewide impact and accessibility that Hartford HealthCare provides to patients all across Connecticut.

| Nov 14, 2024 1:17 pm |The Griffin Health Valley Soul Holiday Gospel Choir is set to illuminate the joys of the holiday season with a free concert of traditional and contemporary gospel and holiday music on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour.
Under the direction of recording artist and music industry veteran Angela Clemmons, the Valley Soul choir of volunteer singers will be the main attraction for the Griffin Health Annual Holiday Concert. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the free concert starts at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will follow the concert.

ANSONIA – The days when volunteers hauled their pumper by hand to fires were recalled Saturday night when the Charters Hose Company feted David Fitzgerald of 135 Clifton Ave, a 50-year member of the unit at its annual old timers’ night at the company headquarters.

| Nov 13, 2024 5:46 pm |VALLEY – President-elect Donald J. Trump won each of the five towns in the lower Naugatuck Valley except in Ansonia, a city with a dominant local Republican Party who control the mayor’s office and the Board of Aldermen.
Voters in Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour and Shelton cast a combined 57,484 votes for U.S. president in this election.

The events will feature a discussion led by Griffin Health Director of Pharmacy Services Lisa Jaser, Pharm D, of medication safety and how to make smart prescription choices. Griffin Health caregivers will also be offering free blood pressure screenings and consultations.
