Clerk Candidate: I’ll Bring Focus, Transparency To Office

The Town and City Clerk’s Office is the front line of communication between Ansonia City Hall and the residents it serves. I am running for Clerk to bring a new focus on customer service and transparency to the office.

A resident might stop by the Clerk’s office for a number of reasons. Whether it is to request a birth certificate, run a title search or request the minutes and agendas of our City’s various Boards and Commissions, that resident deserves to be treatment with professionalism and courtesy. It is my philosophy that City Hall belongs to the people. All residents should feel at home and at ease when doing business there.

I am also fierce advocate of Connecticut’s Freedom of Information Act and am committed to providing residents with quick access to all information and documents they are entitled to under the law. Residents should not have to fight and wait for information that rightly belongs in the hands of the public. As Clerk I will work with our City’s Corporation Counsel to expedite Freedom of Information Requests to every extent possible.

I will also look to make more public information available online, including information on our City budget and expenditures. City Hall should not be afraid to put public information into the hands of the public. After all, that’s where it belongs.

As City Clerk I also have the ability to create more efficiencies between City boards and commissions. While such changes in procedure may not be highly visible to the average taxpayer, it is my hope that increased inter-departmental communication will result in streamlined procedures that save time and money.

By way of background, I have called Ansonia my home since 2001. As a single parent and working professional I know the value of hard work and the ability to multi-task. I am proud of my educational background, which includes a dual degree in economics and psychobiology. I hope to use my education, and skills acquired in the field of finance and sales, to make a real difference in the Clerk’s Office.

Government should never be an obstacle or burden to taxpayers. Rather, I believe government should aim to remove obstacles and lift burdens wherever possible. I am running for Clerk to put my ideas about better government into practice. I am excited for the chance to serve my fellow residents and up for any challenge.
