Dziekan: I’ll Honor Squads And Teams With More Signs

On Aug. 1, during my campaign walk, I stopped by Ryan Field to show my support and help kick off the Pop Warner season.

Specifically, I wanted to congratulate the three-time National Champion cheerleading squad, who finished as 2016 National Grand Champions among 332 contenders.

It was disheartening to hear that this achievement went completely unrecognized by Derby’s City Hall.

I have ensured the girls and their coaches that if I win the mayoral race, we will all celebrate together.

I will make sure there is a sign to commemorate not only their victory, but also those of the other great Pop Warner teams we have had over the years.

Meanwhile, the Derby Republican Town Committee has decided to treat the girls to a post-practice pasta dinner.

Congratulations on an amazing feat and best of luck in pursuit of your fourth National Championship!

The writer is the Republican candidate for mayor.
