Irene Scratches Derby’s First Day Of School

WILL WE HAVE SCHOOL TOMORROW?

That’s the second most asked question in the Valley this week, after When will my power be back on?”

All Derby Public Schools will be closed to students on Tuesday, August 30, due to continuing power outages in the area — including at Derby High School.

Tuesday was supposed to be their first day.

The schools will re-open for students as soon as all of our buildings have power and conditions are safe, officials said.

In Oxford, officials want to wait until 3 p.m. Tuesday to make the call on the scheduled first day of school Wednesday.

Ansonia says it plans to open for its first day Wednesday. That includes Ansonia Middle School, which regained power Tuesday, officials said in a message to parents Tuesday.

Shelton and Seymour schools are not scheduled to begin until after Labor Day.
