I attended the mayoral debate in Derby that was held last night. It is unbelievable to me that anyone can stand behind a candidate who clearly has no plan for the City of Derby.
Several times Mr. Dziekan was asked what his plan for Derby is.
Each time Mr. Dziekan responded by stating that he would put together a group of people and come up with a plan.
Shouldn’t a candidate for any leadership office already have a plan?
Mayor Dugatto already has a plan for Derby. In fact, it is the plan that the citizens of Derby had a significant role in creating.
Mayor Dugatto has been diligently working with the citizens to bring Derby into the future. I have driven by city hall late at night and witnessed Mayor Dugatto in her office “burning the midnight oil.”
During the debate and in his campaign literature, Mr. Dziekan says he will be a “full time mayor at no extra cost or expense to taxpayers.”
Apparently he doesn’t truly comprehend how many hours it actually takes to be mayor. I have spent time with Mayor Dugatto at Derby Day, the Farmer’s Market, and other events where I have seen her constantly working to bring Derby into the future. Her work is not confined to the four walls of city hall.
Also during the debate Mr. Dziekan stated he would work with the chief to bring more police presence to the area of Anson Street and Sixth Street. I own a house and live on Sixth Street.
The police are in the area regularly.
I see them on bicycles, walking or in their squad cars. When I am out working in my yard the officers stop to talk to me, ask me how things are in the neighborhood and inquire if there is anything they can do to make it better.
I always thank them for their service and say to just keep doing what they are doing.
One of my last observations about Mr. Dziekan is that he appears to be a follower not a leader. When he was asked if he supports Mr. Staffieri as his treasury candidate, his answer was a typical political non-answer. He rambled on about how anyone wanting to run for a position had to put their name in and the committee voted them onto the ticket.
He said the Republican town committee put Mr. Staffieri on the ballot.
From his answer, it appears to me that Mr. Dziekan doesn’t in fact believe in his political ticket.
I ask the citizens of Derby to give careful consideration to their choices on Nov. 7.
Do we want someone like Mr. Dziekan who appears to be a political puppet running our city?
I say no!
Mayor Dugatto is the right person to continue leading Derby into the future.
Sincerely,
Deborah J Godeski
