Serious Wreck On Route 8, Southbound Lanes Now Open

UPDATE: The southbound lanes of Route 8 in Shelton are open.

State police are investigating a serious wreck on Route 8 in the area of exit 13 in Shelton.

The southbound lanes have been closed since about 11:30 a.m. Delays were reported to exit 18.

They should be open by 3:30 p.m.

The northbound lanes were closed briefly Shelton, but were open as of 3:06 p.m. North closed so state police could investigate the southbound crash.

Initial reports indicate a vehicle was traveling north, lost control, crashed into vehicle heading south.

Southbound lanes estimated to open around 3:30 p.m.

Closure causing delays on Valley side streets, obviously.

This stretch of Route 8 is widely seen as accident prone, according to Valley Indy Facebook readers (and several EMS workers interviewed by the Valley Indy).

The Valley Indy is told there have been 29 crashes along this stretch of Route 8 since Nov. 1.
