THE VALLEY INDY’S MOST WATCHED VIDEOS OF 2014

Dear Readers,

Eugene Driscoll and Ethan Fry, the Valley Indy staffers, are on vacation until Jan. 2, 2015.

This week we will be publishing a number of year-in-review stories.

We hope you enjoy the look back — and thank you for reading the site this year.

Happy New Year!

The Most Watched Valley Indy Videos of 2014.

No explanation needed, right?

1. Molto Bene Burglary

The most watched video of the year was posted less than a month ago and is just 11 seconds long.

It shows a burglar running through Molto Bene on Wakelee Avenue in Ansonia, on his way to steal a television.

It was shared with us by Molto Bene owner Drew Pickering, who hoped someone would identify the person and call the police.

We have not heard about an arrest, FYI.

2. Shelton Firefighter Talks Howe Avenue Fire

The Valley Indy was there, up to our ankles in water and blinded by fog and smoke in the middle of the night as fire consumed a building on Howe Avenue last January. The building collapsed, although it was hard to make anything out just 50 feet away.

Our tunnel vision went away when the sun came up in the morning, giving the public a first clear look at the destruction. Click here for a story.

Miraculously, no one died.

Shelton fire department spokesman Nick Verdicchio’s first discussion with the press was the second-most watched Valley Indy video of 2014.

3. Shelton Shooting Press Conference

Someone murdered a 15-year-old boy in Shelton nine months ago.

The killer is still out there.

Information from state police, who took over the homicide case from the Shelton PD, has been extremely hard to come by.

Kristjan Ndoj’s family — and the public — waits for an arrest, and an explanation of just what happened that night.

The first press briefing on the killing was the third most-watched video of 2014. Unfortunately, police have released little information on the case since then.

4. Derby Ice Bucket Challenge

Who says the media only covers negative stories?

This video of a bunch of Derby educators getting sprayed with a fire hose clicks in at no. 4.

5. Howe Avenue fire

This 30-second video, posted to the Valley Indy Facebook page, was among the first videos of last January’s large fire on Howe Avenue in Shelton.

We used Facebook straight through the night during the fire to report updates, info, photos and video.
