Valley Indy Election Day Outtakes

The only contested race locally on Election Day was the matchup in state House District 104, where state Rep. Kara Rochelle fended off a challenge from Ansonia Mayor David Cassetti and Independent Party candidate Tom Egan.

The district includes all of Ansonia and much of west Derby.

Valley Indy reporter Jasmine Wright spent the afternoon of Election Day talking to voters at the polls to find out who they voted for and why.

Wright photographed U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro and Shelton’s Jimmy Tickey supporting Rochelle at the polls in Ansonia, as seen below:

Wright also photographed Ansonia Alderman Tony Levinsky, who was volunteering his time at the polls to support Cassetti, as seen in the photo below:

After polls closed at 8 p.m., Derby freelance photographer Anthony Mullin waited with Wright and Rochelle’s supporters at The Quail and Ale, a bar-restaurant on Derby Avenue in Derby.

Mullin captured this photograph of Rochelle as she took a moment to gather her thoughts before addressing her supporters:

Mullin also photographed Rochelle after her victory speech, when she appeared live during The Valley Indy’s election stream. About 3,000 people watched.

The Valley Indy hired freelance photographer Peyton McKenzie to cover the Cassetti campaign on Main Street in Ansonia.

In this photo, Cassetti and his team receive the results showing that Rochelle was ahead in both Ansonia and Derby. Others in the photo include Alderwoman Bobbi Tar, Derby GOP leader Gino DiGiovanni and, seated, Ansonia Corporation Counsel John Marini.

McKenzie took the photo below after Cassetti delivered his concession speech. McKenzie described the photo as follows: Ansonia Mayor David Cassetti, left, is greeted by his 9‑year-old niece, Giulianna Cassetti, after announcing his defeat at his campaign headquarters in Ansonia.”

Valley Indy reporter Jean Falbo-Sosnovich covered the Cassetti campaign on Election Day. Her husband, Mike, captured this video of Cassetti delivering his concession speech. This version of the video is about one minute longer than the version The Valley Indy published on Nov. 5. We had some trouble transferring the video due to the file size.
