YMCA Swim Team Results

On Saturday, Jan. 7, the Valley YMCA Sprinters kicked off the New Year, competing against the Ellington YMCA Breakers.

Carter Brenning, Jack Hillman and Carly Ryan, all age 8 and under swimmers, swam 25 butterfly for the first time during the Ellington Meet. Jack Peccerillo (13) and Jake Velleco (12) swam the 500 freestyle for the first time. That’s 20 lengths of the pool which they both finished in seven minutes. 

Thomas Rimkunas (9) swam the 100 freestyle for the first time. Brianna Hurd (13) swam the 200 freestyle for the first time.

Congratulations to Grace Scully (12) who took 45 seconds off her previous 500 yard Freestyle time, finishing in 6:32:58.

Swimmers who meet the minimum qualifying times during Sprinters meets are eligible to participate in both New England and CT Age Group Championship meets which take place in March 2012.

Four additional swimmers have now qualified for the New England Championships.

  • Lexi Brinkmann – 50 butterfly
  • Tommy Minar – 100 breaststroke
  • Daniel Matyszczyk – 100 breaststroke and 50 butterfly
  • Jack Crocamo – 100 breaststroke

Two additional swimmers have now qualified for the CT Age Group Championships. 

  • Tommy Minar – 100 breaststroke
  • Makenna Nicholas – 100 breaststroke

Congratulations to all the Sprinters! Their next meet is Saturday, Jan. 21 where they will swim against members of the Waterbury YMCA Swim Team at Waterbury. Members of the team who are USA registered swimmers will also be competing in USA meets on Jan. 11 and 17.

The Valley YMCA is a branch of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA.

The Sprinters are members of the Yankee Cluster League, which is a subdivision of the Northeast Region of the National Council of YMCAs. Swimmers ages 5 —18 years old are eligible to join the swim team. 

The Valley YMCA Sprinters are lead by Head Coach Kelly Crocamo along with Assistant Coaches Patrick DiCaprio, Phil Garofolo and Chris Durette.
