Buildings purchased by the state on Main Street in Derby will be coming down sometime between December and March, a state transportation spokesman confirmed Wednesday.
It’s part of the Route 34 widening plan — a project that the state and the City of Derby have been planning for at least a decade.

Buildings on the south side of Main Street should start coming down within 90 days, Derby Mayor Anita Dugatto announced Tuesday.
The buildings, which formerly housed apartments, a liquor store, a religious shop and a tile store among other uses, must come down to make way for the long-planned widening of Route 34/Main Street in downtown Derby.

I am Adam Pacheco and I am running for the City of Derby’s Board of Aldermen (BOA). I came to Derby in 2005 and in the past 12 years I have served as a volunteer in both the Ambulance Corps and Fire Department, as well as on the Charter Revision Committee. I now currently volunteer as a Commissioner for the Housing Authority. I hope my actions make clear my belief in public service. I’m running for the BOA because I believe in Derby, I am invested in this city, and I believe I have more in me to greater serve this city.

DERBY — GOP candidate for mayor Rich Dziekan said Tuesday that city finances are “in a state of emergency” and that Mayor Anita Dugatto’s silence on the matter speaks volumes.
The Republican candidate’s proof is a Sept. 28 report from Standard & Poor’s showing that Derby is one of nine municipalities that could see its bond rating downgraded.
If that happens, the city could face higher interest rates when trying to borrow money.
