The name DiCenso is synonymous with Derby. For so many kids and families growing up in this great city, I can say with confidence that the DiCenso family has positively affected the lives of so many.

Over the last few years I have been asked to serve upon three citywide boards and tip my cap to those fellow residents who donate so much time to the betterment of Derby. Many have spent years trying to improve our city.
During this time period I have had the pleasure of working with Mayor Anita Dugatto. We spent numerous hours meeting with federal and state officials of EPA and DEEP to resolve the many issues that plagued our Water Pollution Control Authority over the years.

When I retired from a very demanding, yet very gratifying career as a business owner after nearly 40 years, I was determined to take on an even more demanding, even more gratifying position serving the great City of Derby as an elected official.

I was the first of my eight siblings to be born in Derby after my parents immigrated here from Italy. My father worked in the fabric dying room of Derby’s Hull Dye; my mother spent most of her time raising me and my siblings, while doing her best to stretch my father’s paycheck as far as she could.

In response to the two recent editorials by Samantha Burgan and Chris Larocque, I encourage you both to reach out to Carmen DiCenso personally to discuss your concerns with him.
It’s far too easy to sit behind a keyboard to express opposing thoughts, judgements and opinions without communicating directly to the person you are calling into question.

I had to put down my copy of “The Death and Life of Great American Cities” by Jane Jacobs (which I borrowed from the Derby Neck Library earlier in the week) when I read the recent op-ed by mayoral candidate Carmen DiCenso.

On Aug. 1, during my campaign walk, I stopped by Ryan Field to show my support and help kick off the Pop Warner season.
Specifically, I wanted to congratulate the three-time National Champion cheerleading squad, who finished as 2016 National Grand Champions among 332 contenders.

Derby Mayor Anita Dugatto’s campaign accused the city’s Democratic Registrar of Voters Wednesday of having a conflict of interest for being “involved” in a rival campaign and not informing Dugatto’s campaign of looming deadline.
