A town resident who serves as a clerk in the tax collector’s office in Newtown announced Monday night she’ll be running for tax collector.
Cayenne Spremullo made the announcement at the Republican headquarters of George R. Temple for First Selectman and Jeffrey Haney for Selectman.

If elected First Selectman of Oxford, veteran attorney George R. Temple vows to tear down at least one barrier between government and the people.
“There are a lot of politicians who are saying they have an open door policy. I’m a little different. I’m going to take the door off the First Selectman’s office and put in the the hall, to let everyone know, if I’m there, come and talk to me,” said Temple, 65.

George Temple, an attorney running for First Selectman as a Republican, faced disciplinary action in 2009 after a client filed a grievance against him.
As a result, Temple had to take six hours of continuing legal education, which included a course on ethics, according to Statewide Bar Counsel Michael P. Bowler.
The complaint against Temple was probed by the Statewide Grievance Committee and the Statewide Bar Counsel.

I feel an obligation to share with Oxford residents my personal, past situation which was recently published on the Valley Independent Sentinel.
I am a professional architectural designer and was self‐employed in this field for many years, providing services mainly to residential clients. When the economy began to unravel in the fall of 2008, work quickly and steadily dropped off as clients found they were unable to afford to start or continue work on their homes.
Like a lot of other small business owners and families, I struggled along in the poor economy, using our family’s personal and retirement savings to support ourselves.

A bank commenced foreclosure proceedings in 2009 against Joseph Calabrese, the Democratic Party’s candidate for First Selectman, court documents show.
Calabrese said he has resolved the issue.
The case file began in 2009 was last updated in March 2011, court records show.

Architects listen to people and then translate their aspirations into a concrete, tangible plan. It’s a mindset that architect Joseph Calabrese believes will help him as Oxford First Selectman.
“That’s something that translates well to the town. You need to do planning and have a vision, and listen to what the residents are looking for, and come up with a plan that accommodates that,” Calabrese said.
