The Oxford race for First Selectman picked up steam Thursday evening, with separate events staged by each candidate at precisely the same time.
Outside Town Hall at 6 p.m., Joseph Calabrese, who is the Democratic Party’s choice for the town’s top elected office, gave a press conference to talk about his approach to dealing with the town’s road repair issues.

Oxford residents aren’t fragmented — they’re just passionate.
That was the theme of a press conference First Selectman candidate Joseph Calabrese hosted Thursday outside Oxford Town Hall, where Calabrese said a few malcontents who try to politicize everything do not represent the majority of residents.

According to the Oxford registrar’s office, 30 residents previously listed as independent switched to Republican in the weeks leading up to the primary.
It’s not possible to say with 100 percent certainty, but those 30 freshly-minted Republicans just might have given George Temple the GOP nomination for First Selectman.
Temple, an attorney, beat David Yish by 17 votes after a Republican primary Tuesday.

This fall’s Democratic slate for the Oxford Board of Education will host a “Meet & Greet” on Monday, Sept. 19th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Brookside Restaurant.

Thirty unaffiliated voters switched to the Republican Party since July, according to Linda Crowe, the Republican Registrar of Voters.
We’ll find out today (Tuesday, Sept. 13) whether those new Republicans will make a difference in the GOP primary pitting George Temple against David Yish.

Voting is open to any registered Republican in Oxford.

The GOP primary in Oxford is on.
Republican First Selectman hopeful David Yish turned in 155 valid signatures at the Registrar of Voters office Wednesday, the last day to file signatures to force a primary with George R. Temple, who won the Republican nomination during a GOP caucus last month.

Despite being the odd man out at a closed-door meeting where his fellow Republicans endorsed someone else, George Temple says he’ll walk in with confidence — and about 100 votes — to the Oxford Republican caucus tonight (Tuesday, July 19).
Temple, an attorney, wants the Republican endorsement to run for First Selectman.
Last Thursday, members of the Oxford Republican Town Committee got together in a closed meeting to discuss their slate. They walked out endorsing David Yish and Lila Ferillo for First Selectman and Selectmen.

The Oxford Republican Town Committee Thursday endorsed David Yish as candidate for First Selectman.
Yish will be running with Lila Ferillo, the chairwoman of the Oxford Board of Finance.
The endorsements happened at a special meeting of the GOP committee.
Yish is a first-term member of the Oxford Board of Selectmen. He is the only Republican on the three-member board.
