Election Day is Nov. 5!

This year The Valley Indy has been providing exclusive coverage on the race happening in state House of Representatives District 104, where incumbent Democratic state Rep. Kara Rochelle is being challenged by Republican Party candidate Mayor David Cassetti and Independent Party candidate Thomas Egan.

Gov. Lamont Talks To Financial Institutions About Helping Flood Victims

SEYMOUR – From a press release: Gov. Ned Lamont and Connecticut Banking Commissioner Jorge Perez joined CEOs and executives of major banks and credit unions from across Connecticut at a news conference in Seymour to announce partnerships between state government and the financial services industry to provide relief and critical information to individuals and businesses impacted by the Aug. 18, 2024, severe flooding in Fairfield County, Litchfield County, and New Haven County.”

New Seymour Scout Troop Hosting Event

SEYMOUR — A new Scout Troop in Seymour is hosting a get together at Trinity Episcopal Church at 91 Church St. starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 23).

Troop 13 Girls of Seymour was established this month. They are posted out of Trinity Episcopal and they are part of the Housatonic Council Boy Scouts of America.

WTNH News 8 To Host U.S. Senate Debate On Oct. 30

WTNH-TV News 8, the Nexstar Media Group, Inc. television station serving Hartford/New Haven and the surrounding area, announced today that it will air an exclusive live telecast of a debate between the candidates for United States Senator from Connecticut, incumbent U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D) and challenger Matthew Corey (R).

The 2024 Connecticut U.S. Senate Debate will air live on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. ET from the WTNH News 8 studios in New Haven.

Waterbury Line Train Service To Return Oct. 28

SEYMOUR — The commuter train line for the Valley is scheduled to return Monday (Oct. 28) the state Department of Transportation announced on Friday (11:30 a.m.)

The Metro-North Waterbury line, which locally passes through Seymour, Ansonia and Derby, hasn’t been operating since being damaged during the Aug. 18 flooding. Buses have been picking commuters up at the train stations, and will continue to do so until Monday.

There were two washouts that undermined the tracks in Beacon Falls and Seymour.

The cost of the repairs was not mentioned.

Anonymous Donation Will Help Flood-Damaged Klarides Village Businesses

An anonymous donor has donated a $20,000 check to help small businesses in Seymour impacted by the devastating flooding of Aug. 18. According to Seymour Fire Chief Chris Edwards, who also serves as the town’s emergency management director, the donor – a local business – wished to remain anonymous. Edwards said the donor requested the money be specifically earmarked for the small businesses in Klarides Village impacted by the flooding.

Voters will notice something new this year: a campaign finance feature providing voters with insights into the financial backers of federal candidates ahead of the 2024 elections. This VOTE411 expansion reflects the League’s long-standing commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in the political process.
