The Ballot Question

There is a question from state government on this year’s ballot.

It reads:

Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to permit the General Assembly to alow each voter to vote by absentee ballot?

From The CT MIrror:

Passage of the referendum would remove from the state constitution a list of limited circumstances under which a voter can vote by absentee, allowing the General Assembly to legalize no-excuse or universal absentee voting.”

Also from the Mirror:

Connecticut voters will be asked in this year’s election whether the state constitution should be amended to allow all voters to cast their ballots by mail.

Permitting no-excuse absentee voting, as it’s commonly called, would mark an expansion of Connecticut’s voting laws, which currently only allow residents to vote by mail under certain circumstances. But it would put Connecticut in line with many other states that already allow all voters to vote absentee.”
