Storm Info For Valley Residents

Superstorm Sandy is long gone, but the effects of her destructive swoop through the region are still being felt.

Towns throughout the lower Naugatuck Valley are in various stages of picking up all the pieces. As of Friday there were still many people without power in Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour, and Shelton.

And the temperature is expected to dip into the 30s this weekend.

What follows is a town-by-town rundown of shelters and other services available to those without power as a result of the storm. Information can also be obtained by dialing 211.

SHELTON

In Shelton, an overnight shelter at the Community Center at 41 Church St. is open 24/7. Residents can also go there to charge phones or take showers.

In addition, residents can get meals ready to eat, ice, and water at Echo Hose Ambulance headquarters, 100 Meadow St., until 10 p.m. nightly.

The city is running a comfort station at the Community Center, 35 Fifth St., for those without power. It is open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
