The Valley Indy raised $6,745 last week during The Great Give, a 36-hour fundraising event sponsored by Give Local America, the Valley Community Foundation and the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven.
We are extremely grateful to the 119 people who donated (actually 121 if you count the person who sent a check) while the online giving event was happening.
A complete list of donors is at the end of this post.
We also wanted to say thank you to the nonprofit groups who took a chance and participated in our 36-hour video webcast during The Great Give.
We had never tried anything like it before, and we had no idea if we could pull it off.
But the webcast went smoothly for the most part, although we were clearly hallucinating about 27 hours into the marathon session (note to self — it we do this again, remember to schedule time to eat).
You can watch the entire webcast on YouTube.
Thank you to the groups who took a chance on the Valley Indy experiment by appearing on the webcast to talk about their nonprofits:
Valley Shakespeare Festival
BHCare
Valley Community Foundation
Center Stage Theatre
Seymour Pink
Shelton Land Conservation Trust
Derby Historical Society
Seymour First Selectman Kurt Miller and Alex Danka, who called four times to promote a separate fundraiser happening during The Great Give for TEAM, Inc.
Ansonia-Derby High School Human Relations Club
Valley Arts Council
Derby Community Endowment
Housatonic Council, Boy Scouts of America
Valley United Way
Valley Emergency Medical Services
Ansonia Mayor David Cassetti (who came on to promote Ansonia Public Schools)
Treasured Time
MovingWithHOPE
Area Congregations Together/Spooner House
Shelton High School Robotics Team
Apologies to the local nonprofits who didn’t get direct invitations from the Valley Indy to appear — again, this was experimental, so we were afraid to overbook the webcast. However, we did open the phone lines a bunch of times during the 36-hour webcast to any nonprofits willing to dial the phone and appear.
Programming note — we’re planning to do a 25- to 30-minute webcast live every week to highlight local nonprofits. We hope to get it off the ground within the next few weeks.
One of our favorite moments during the 36-hour webcast happened about 28 hours in, when Ansonia Alderman Daniel Evans stopped by to sing some songs to raise money for Ansonia school programs:

- Note: we’ll be giving away three Valley Indy coffee mugs to three of the donors listed above in a random drawing later this month. The mugs are scheduled to arrive on our desks May 20. We’ll email the winners shortly after we receive the mugs.
And special thanks to whomever sent us this fruit basket!
Someone (it was anonymous) sent us a bouquet from Edible Arrangements. Thank you!
