WANTED:19th CENTURY BALL PLAYERS

THE GREAT BASE BALL RE-MATCH?

Ansonia Coppermen vs. Derby Osbornedales!

In honor of Ansonia’s 125th birthday, an open request is going out for ballplayers interested in representing two 19th century baseball teams – Ansonia Coppermen and Derby Osbornedales.

The clubs will compete in a Winner-Take-All vintage baseball game, set in 1889, as part of a planned Ansonia 125th Anniversary SummerFest on Saturday, July 19 at Nolan Field.

The event will also include BBQ food vendors, evening concert and fireworks.

Presenting an amateur baseball game from 125 years ago is creative and unique and will be a wonderful historical tie-in and family attraction,” said Ansonia Mayor Dave Cassetti who initiated the SummerFest idea. I encourage all area baseball talented players to tryout.”

Interested players are requested to submit an application and reside in Ansonia, Derby, Seymour, Oxford, Beacon Falls, Shelton or Monroe.

Preferred ballplayers should be athletic, and within the ages of 20 – 40. Previous high school and/or college baseball experience a plus.

Selected applicants will be invited to attend a late May controlled tryout with date/location to be announced.

Clubs will play by 1880’s rules and era baseball etiquette.

Players chosen will be provided period uniforms and equipment, including hand-size fielder gloves and heavy odd-shaped handle bats made by Vintage Base Ball Factory. (www.vbbf.com).
