Derby Aldermen Accept Ansonia’s Bet For July 19 Baseball Game

Derby Aldermen Thursday (July 17) accepted the challenge from the Ansonia Aldermen regarding a wager for Saturday’s Antique Baseball Game. 

Should the Ansonia Coppermen lose, the Ansonia Board of Aldermen will be required to serve lunch at the Derby Senior Center and if the Derby Osbornedales lose, the Derby Board of Aldermen will be required to serve lunch at the Ansonia Senior Center.

Ansonia To Derby: We’ll Beat You At Baseball Or Feed Your Seniors

A vintage baseball game between teams from Ansonia and Derby takes place this month, and officials from Ansonia are confident their team will come out on top.

The game will hark back to the late 19th century, when teams of tradesmen from the two cities would form baseball teams and play against one another.

The match-up is part of the city’s Summerfest,” an eight-hour festival July 19 at Nolan Field on Wakelee Avenue.

Open House, ‘Touch A Truck’ Event June 28 At Ansonia Fire Museum

FILEAs part of Ansonia’s 125th Anniversary Celebration, the Ansonia Fire Museum will sponsor an open house and touch-a-truck Saturday, June 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The museum is located at 50 Howard Ave.

Come and see antique fire equipment and other items from Ansonia’s history.

Open House Saturday At Derby Historical Society

Step back in time and join us for CT Open House Day on Saturday, June 14th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Enjoy a tour of the General David Humphrey’s House and/or an outside, walking tour of the Historic Elm Street district, led by our costumed Docents. 

Colonial chores, activities, and demonstrations will be performed throughout the day.

Ansonia To Talk 125th Anniversary March 10

Ansonia is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year through city-wide events.

The Cultural Commission’s Melissa Torres, who Mayor Cassetti has appointed to coordinate the year-long activities, is looking for sponsors.

Torres would like to give local businesses the opportunity to be key players in all festivities in exchange for name recognition at ANSONIA 125 events, which will include the usual Ansonia annual events as well as new ones created uniquely for the anniversary.
