United Illuminating officials expect to restore power to 3,300 customers in Shelton by the end of the day Wednesday (Aug. 31).
That’s about half of those who still had no power Wednesday morning, according to UI spokesman Michael West.
The utility company has 26 crews working in Shelton on Wednesday, West said.

Power came back to most of Seymour Wednesday.
As of 1 p.m., Connecticut Light & Power reported that 672 customers — or 9 percent — remained out of power.
Compare that to Monday at 11 p.m., when the utility company reported 5,135 customers — or 85 percent — had no power in Seymour.
Among the customers to get restored Wednesday: Seymour Town Hall.

United Illuminating hopes to restore power to another 10,000 customers by the end of the day Wednesday, according to a video message from CEO Jim Torgerson.
Torgerson said residents can call a customer service line at 1 – 800-722‑5584 to find out if they are among the homes that will get power turned back on Wednesday.
“They can tell you today if the line you are located on is going to be impacted by crews,” Torgerson said in the video. “We can’t go too much beyond today.”

Derby will open its Community Center at 35 Fifth St. today (Wednesday, Aug. 31) from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. for city residents who do not have power.
The building will also be open Thursday and Friday, same hours.
Residents from the parts of the city without power will be able to get ready-to-eat meals and bottled water.

Shelton residents could be without power for another two to five days, according to Director of Emergency Management John Millo.
That’s his own assessment. United Illuminating crews haven’t been able to tell the city when the power could be back on.
“They’re not even telling their liaisons,” Millo said Wednesday morning. “There’s no estimate from them. But we’re just figuring, based on past experience, it could be another two to five days.”

There were supposedly three United Illuminating crews in Derby Tuesday, where 317 UI customers have been out of power since the weekend’s Hurricane Irene — but emergency management director Charles Sampson sure as heck didn’t see them.
“There were zero crews here today. No work got done in the City of Derby today on this issue, except for AT&T coming out to put two new telephone poles on Hawthorne Avenue,” Sampson said.

The locker rooms at Seymour Middle School at 211 Mountain Road will be available for showers from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, First Selectman Paul Roy said.
In addition, water is available for residents at Great Hill Hose Co. at 140 Botsford Road at an outdoor spigot. People need to bring their own containers. Click here for a map.
Power is expected to be fully restored to Seymour within two days, according to an e-mail sent Tuesday evening by Tom Eighmie, the town’s director of the officer of emergency management.
Some residents have been without electricity since Saturday night, when Hurricane Irene arrived.
