Cindy Dion says she voted yes “for the kids.”
Robert Costigan said he voted no because “the board of education is out of control.”
The two were among more than 600 people who had cast a ballot as of noon, in the fourth referendum for the proposed Seymour Board of Education budget Thursday, June 14.

As Seymour approaches its fourth referendum for the proposed school budget, Board of Education members Tuesday met with members of the press and public to answer any lingering questions about the proposal.Despite an information campaign by the Board of Education this year about its budget, the public still had questions about where the budget money goes in the district — specifically how much administrators get.

The Seymour Board of Finance Wednesday cut $150,000 from the school budget request — after initially saying they wanted to send the same budget back to voters for a fourth time.

It turns out the Seymour Board of Finance should have made some type of change — if only by a dollar — to the proposed Board of Education budget before sending it back to voters.
The board on Monday voted to send the same $30.5 million school budget proposal to referendum, tentatively scheduled for June 14, that voters had rejected at the town’s third budget vote last month.
But that’s against Seymour’s charter, according to town counsel Richard Buturla.

The Seymour Board of Finance Monday voted to send the same school budget to referendum that residents already rejected by 201 votes.
The decision came with a mandate to the Board of Education: Sell the $30.5 million proposal to the voters or face painful cuts if the budget is rejected at a fourth referendum.

Seymour voters will head to the polls a third time on Wednesday May 30, to vote on proposed town and school budgets totaling $51.7 million.
The budget referendum will take place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the town’s community center on Pine Street.
The budget proposals would set the town’s tax rate at 32.95 mills.
