When I was elected to be First Selectman I promised to promote government efficiency and bring changes to our town. I promised to be a leader that would bring Seymour up to the year 2012. I promised to cut costs by finding ways we can be more efficient.

Seymour residents will vote May 30 on town and school budgets totaling $51.7 million that would set the mill rate at 32.95.
After accounting for revaluation, the tax rate would go up 1 mill.
Officials at a Board of Finance meeting Monday where the proposal was finalized hoped the number would convince voters to ratify the spending plan after two failed budget referendums this month.
“Under a mill in this town seems to be like a magic phrase that garners more support,” Finance Board Chairman Trish Danka said during the discussions.

More people voted in Seymour’s second budget referendum Thursday, but the results were the same: both the school and town budget proposals were rejected by voters.
The results:
Town Budget: $21,356,366
YES: 710
NO: 856
School budget: $30,698,027
YES: 644
NO: 919

Residents will vote on a proposed $52 million town and school budget for 2012 – 2013 at a day-long referendum May 17.
The referendum hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Seymour Community Center on Pine Street.
Residents rejected the first proposals at a referendum on May 3.

The Seymour Board of Finance on Monday trimmed a little more than $500,000 from the town and school budget proposals that failed at referendum last week.
A new referendum is scheduled for May 17.
The director of public works position would be eliminated, under the budget suggested by the finance board. It still needs to be approved by Selectmen.

Seymour citizens will vote on the town and school budget proposals at a daylong referendum Thursday (May 3).
The referendum runs from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The town’s only polling place is the Community Center on Pine Street. Click here for a map.

Seymour’s Board of Education is trying hard to get out as much information as possible about its proposed $30.9 million budget for 2012 – 2013.
So much so that Board of Education Chairman Yashu Putorti had to ask parents Monday night if he was boring them with detail.
“Am I boring you to death?” Putorti asked, offering to do a dance to help keep the presentation entertaining.
