Seymour residents will have a say on the proposed $52.6 million town and school budgets at a public hearing scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday.
The public hearing will be held at the Seymour Middle School at 211 Mountain Road.

I have good news to report.
Although the Board of Finance did not approve the $1.5 million increase requested by the Board of Education; they did unanimously approve a $1.2 million increase to the Board of Education budget at last night’s BOF workshop.
The $1.2 million increase is more money than the Board of Education has received from the Board of Finance in the past three years combined.

The Seymour Board of Finance got its first look at the Seymour schools budget proposal Wednesday — along with dozens of pages of documents to back up the $31.3 million request.
Board of Education members, school Superintendent MaryAnne Mascolo, administrators, principals and teachers gathered at Town Hall for a two-hour review of the proposal on March 7.
The Board of Finance is reviewing all department budget requests as it tries to come up with a proposal to present to voters for the March 29 public hearing.

Seymour First Selectman Kurt Miller is proposing a town budget that would see spending increase by 3.6 percent.
The increase would pay for new departments, such as human resources and technology, to help make the town more efficient, Miller said.
The 2012 – 2013 proposal — Miller’s first in his role as First Selectman — is being reviewed by the Board of Finance.

Seymour residents can vote on the $50.69 million budget proposal at a day-long referendum Tuesday.
The referendum will take place at the Seymour Community Center at 20 Pine Street from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
First Selectman Paul Roy urged all residents to vote and to support the proposal.
